Issue Addressed
The Literacy Learning Program addresses the issue of low literacy levels among learners, particularly challenges in reading fluency, spelling, vocabulary development, and comprehension, which often lead to poor academic performance and school dropout risks. In many developing contexts, including Guyana, regional assessments and classroom reports have consistently shown that a significant proportion of primary school students—often estimated at 20% to 40% in some under-resourced communities—struggle to read at grade level by the end of primary education.
These gaps are often linked to limited access to early intervention support, large class sizes, and insufficient individualized instruction. The program responds by providing targeted, small-group and one-on-one support designed to close learning gaps, strengthen foundational literacy skills, and improve confidence in reading and writing.
By directly addressing these challenges, the program contributes to improved academic outcomes, reduced repetition rates, and better long-term educational and employment prospects for learners.
